RAK Setup on Loriot

This guide outlines the steps required to configure a RAK router for use with the Loriot network.

Prerequisites

1. Unboxing and Connecting

  1. Unbox the router and connect the included LoRa antenna.
  2. Connect the RAK to power and to LAN using the cable.
  3. Wait for the RAK to power up. The LED indicator should be solid blue or green.

2. Wi-Fi Connection

  1. On your PC, go to available networks and find the RAK router Wi-Fi.
  2. Connect to the router.

3. Access the RAK Console

  1. In a web browser, go to: https://192.168.230.1/
  2. If prompted with a security warning:
    1. Click Advanced

  1. Click Proceed

  1. Enter a password:
    1. Use LastPass password generator to generate a strong password.
    2. Enter and record this password in the location sheet.

4. Region and Work Mode Configuration

  1. Once logged into the RAK console:
    1. Set the region: Select South Africa and the default frequency.
    2. Under the Configuration tab → Work Mode section:
      1. Select Packet Forwarder.

5. Protocol Configuration

  1. Under the Configuration tab → Protocol section:
    1. Set Server Address to: `eu4pro.loriot.io`
    2. Set Server Port Up to: `1780`
    3. Set Server Port Down to: `1780`
  2. Click Save Changes

6. Gateway Details

  1. Navigate to the Dashboard Overview tab:

  1. Copy the EUI and paste it into the location sheet
  2. Copy the MAC Address and paste it into the location sheet

7. Register Gateway on Loriot

  1. Register the RAK gateway on the Loriot portal using the gathered details.
  2. Confirm that the gateway is communicating successfully.

8. Secure Wi-Fi Access

  1. Navigate to Network on the left-hand navigation bar.
  2. Under the LAN tab, open the Wi-Fi dropdown.
  3. Click Settings and:
    1. Change Encryption to `WPA2-PSK`
    2. Set the Key using the same password generated by LastPass
  4. Save the changes.

9. Final Verification

  1. The router will restart.
  2. Once restarted, verify that the network requires the password.
  3. Take a screenshot of the Wi-Fi access showing it is locked (for reference).

10. Repack and Record

  1. Repackage the router.
  2. Place a sticker on the top of the box.
  3. Write the setup date on the sticker to indicate completion.
