RAK Setup on Loriot
This guide outlines the steps required to configure a RAK router for use with the Loriot network.
Prerequisites
- RAK Router
- LAN cable connected to main router or switch
- A pen
- Dot stickers
- Access to the location sheet (or someone with access)
- Access to the Loriot portal (or someone with access)
1. Unboxing and Connecting
- Unbox the router and connect the included LoRa antenna.
- Connect the RAK to power and to LAN using the cable.
- Wait for the RAK to power up. The LED indicator should be solid blue or green.

3. Access the RAK Console
- In a web browser, go to: https://192.168.230.1/
- If prompted with a security warning:
- Click Advanced
- Click Proceed
- Enter a password:
- Use LastPass password generator to generate a strong password.
- Enter and record this password in the location sheet.
4. Region and Work Mode Configuration
- Once logged into the RAK console:
- Set the region: Select South Africa and the default frequency.
- Under the Configuration tab → Work Mode section:
- Select Packet Forwarder.
5. Protocol Configuration
- Under the Configuration tab → Protocol section:
- Set Server Address to: `eu4pro.loriot.io`
- Set Server Port Up to: `1780`
- Set Server Port Down to: `1780`
- Click Save Changes
6. Gateway Details
- Navigate to the Dashboard Overview tab:
- Copy the EUI and paste it into the location sheet
- Copy the MAC Address and paste it into the location sheet
7. Register Gateway on Loriot
- Register the RAK gateway on the Loriot portal using the gathered details.
- Confirm that the gateway is communicating successfully.
8. Secure Wi-Fi Access
- Navigate to Network on the left-hand navigation bar.
- Under the LAN tab, open the Wi-Fi dropdown.
- Click Settings and:
- Change Encryption to `WPA2-PSK`
- Set the Key using the same password generated by LastPass
- Save the changes.
9. Final Verification
- The router will restart.
- Once restarted, verify that the network requires the password.
- Take a screenshot of the Wi-Fi access showing it is locked (for reference).
10. Repack and Record
- Repackage the router.
- Place a sticker on the top of the box.
- Write the setup date on the sticker to indicate completion.
